Sedona Arabella Miller Schnebly
Since Arabella is Sedona’s middle name, I thought it would be an excellent name for a colorful and whimsical Sedona landscape painting that is as colorful as the woman who’s namesake I decided to use.
Sedona Landscape Views
One of my favorite places to delight-in, in this crazy world of Sedona, is to photograph and then to paint from is Schnebly Hill Rd. Known for its stunning scenery filled with cactus blossoms in this desert landscape. It’s a favorite location for many and an iconic location in the American southwest. While Sedona offers many beautiful views, this one provides one of the best aspects in this Sedona landscape here in the desert.
Awesome Landscape Formations
The views from the back of Sedona are fantastic, and the view from the top of the trail can’t be beaten. The overlook at the top of Schnebly Hill Road provides one of the most spectacular views in Arizona. It’s especially good in the early morning when the sun is at your back, leaving you to daydream and making it worthwhile to get up for sunrise and endure the very rough drive.
Along the way, you’ll pass Prickly Pear Cactus in full desert blossom and many other amazing views of this desert landscape and into the canyon. You’ll catch views of rock formations including Snoopy Rock and Merry-Go-Round Rock. This wonderfully scenic route drops more than 2,000 feet from a wooded mesa into the wonderland of Sedona. This trail road runs for about 12 or 13 miles and ascends about 2,000 feet.
While somewhat less striking and not as recognizable as nearby Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. It is higher than Bell Rock – with FAR fewer people. Although it is called Castle Rock, I’ve decided to call it “Enchanted Castle.” As if it were a single rock, and it does indeed appear to be a single wall when viewed from the southern part of the village. Driving north, the two towers are separated from the main wall in a line to the south.
Like many rock formations here in Sedona, Arabella shows off Merry-Go-Round, ship rock, and others. Others are “Coffee Pot Rock,” “Snoopy Rock,” and the single most photographed image in all of Arizona is “Cathedral Rock” of which I’ve created in 6 different versions. My most popular, “Creekside Cathedral” which I licensed to Warner Bros. for their new media series “Snatchers.” Then came “Fire in the Sky,” “Cathedral Magic,” “Church House Rock,” “Cathedral Rock”and“Sedona’s 1st Light.”
